Post Mortem Unit 3      In truth, quiet little changes were made in this version compared to version 3. The feedback we received from the 3rd rendition did not indicate any major issues.  The only negative we saw was someone mentioning the "Tsunami Event" to be too overpowered. We both agreed that this card was not only one of the weakest, but did not even give a player any noticeable advantage in the first place. Likewise, we assumed that this person not only didn't even read the description of the event, but chose simply to talk about it, as it was literally event #1, appearing at the very top of the list.     Because t his really being the only negative review we encountered, which we believed was faked, we simply struggled to make any major overhauls in our game. We of course made some minor quality of like improvements, and fixed some formatting errors that occurred and and were noticed in version 3. The most significant, or really most noticeabl...

Battleship 2 Version 3      We have made very significant improvements since version 2. In fact the jump is much more noticeable then the one between version one to two. The biggest thing you'll notice at a first glance is the new and improved ship descriptions.      Its significantly clearly and nicer on the eyes. Despite not really receiving any negative feedback on this portion in our play tests, we figured it would be better to overhaul it to flow more smoothly on the rule sheet. What we did receive feedback on was some confusion regarding how ships could move, which we now have further explained under the "Procedures" section, and wrote a small tidbit in the ship stats area, seen above. From the very start we didn't want to use ships in our game. Despite it being a heavily modified version of Battleship, we believed that using the ships would link us too closely to the source game. A pro of the issue is that people more easily understand the conc...

Rule Sheet Version 2      We have made significant progress since our first version of our game. I'm quite happy to present some of our newest changes and "artwork" for the game as it is becoming more and more concrete. We made two major balancing and gameplay changes that we hope would increase both the pace and enjoyability of the game. Firstly, we changed the times the player can attack to twice, instead of one. This is because we wanted the games to go quicker, and because our maps are larger then traditional Battleship. Next, we made it so ships that had been hit were no longer capable of moving. This was primarily done as moving damaged ships was a marking nightmare, but the change ended up sounding not only realistic, but really spurred on the gameplay        Above is an example of how my board looked like after playing for around 20 minutes. Note that this was done before we increased the attacking limit. We copy and pasted red hexagons t...

3rd/Final Rendition           Not only did my groups game start out with insanely positive feedback, but we luckily ended on it to. Throughout the entire development process, we never had a single person say they had a negative experience on any of our forum posts.           Compared to the last game I made with a group, this one got significantly more positive feedback, and less edits in renditions. We actually struggled with making improvements and changes as there was nothing negative pointe out in the game, only potential dons (which we did end up adding a few). Heres a brief summary if you haven't played our game, or read any of the other blog posts. First, ill list out our original requirements -Age range: 40+ -Genre 1: Horror -Genre 2: Real Estate           To say we got two very different game genres would be a understatement. After a lot brainstorming we figured the only game that wo...

Playtest 1 Unit 2

Group 12's Game      The playtest went surprisingly well. Something we quickly realized before even starting our game, was that in theory, it could be played entirely online. We only came to this conclusion when both members of group 13 could not access a printer. The only difference to gameplay was that they needed to keep tallies of how many keys they had (until they hit a total of 5).  Our Game      Our game was completed in under 10 minutes. There were no major flaws which was quite relieving. The two largest takeaways was that we needed both clarification and simplification of our rule sheet, and that the game was difficult for those who did not have any background in the horror genre. The first issue we quickly resolved within the hour, but for the 2nd problem we weren't sure what we could change, as we had to stick with our projects genre of "horror". We decided to combat this by removing some of the...

Rule Sheet 2

Group 12      We created a trivia game surrounding both horror and real estate, Quite a usual combination to say the least. The player must answer questions correctly to be able to get keys which will unlock the doors for the rooms they are trapped in. There is no strategy or skill involved, success in this game is tied entirely to your background knowledge on the topics.      For the 2nd iteration of our rule sheet, we didn't really have much to work on. As there had been no play tests or edits of any kind since we did the original. Because of this, we decide to do a play test of our own. Originally this wasn't seen as an option yet as we hadn't finalize the board game nor the questions we were going to use. But we quickly realized that these weren't essential as we were the creators of the game, as such we already knew how to play it without any physical pieces. After creating the trivia question we figured it would be better to instead leave an onl...

Group 3's Modded Solitaire      The major modifications in our game is the implementation of a timer and the ability to stack cards of the same color. These changed make our game not only easier, but end significantly faster compared to the vanilla game.      We have completed our final revision of our modified version of Solitaire. This third and final rendition has many changes, most of which were based off the reviews from the players. Though this update did not have the largest amount of changes, it did have the highest amount of "quality of life" and gameplay improvements. The most notable and significant changes:  -Complete revamp and further clarifications of the rules. -The removal of a summary about why/how we made the game (was seen as unnecessary). -The removal of a summary regarding our original game "TRES" (not relevant). -The removal of all pictures (were seen as redundant and confused the players).      These change...
